It seems like just yesterday I was chatting to Wayne on the phone about the exciting news of a Wayne Barrow Glasgow Class! Then all of a sudden it was Launch Class and the nerves were starting to kick in!
Why is it that I find it so easy to get up in front of an assembly hall full of around 200 children but the thought of teaching a class of 20 really terrified me!!?? Eventually the nerves seemed to disperse and as each person arrived for the class, I couldn’t wait to get started!
We started off with a game of ‘Communication Train’ to break the ice! One of the reasons I love this game is how everyone starts off very quiet and subdued, but after a few rounds of the game, everyone gets right into it and it’s so competitive! The fun you can have with a coin and a plastic bottle!
After a few games of that, we launched straight into the song! I chose ‘Fight Song’ for a few reasons. Not only was it my audition song for the academy, but it’s also a song that I do with my school choir (who sing and sign too!) It has quite a few repetitive signs and it’s always one that’s full of emotion as it’s such a powerful song! The support and enthusiasm for each other was simply amazing and it wasn’t long before we had learned the whole song! Amazing!
Before I knew it, it was 7pm and class was over! Still time enough for everyone to grab a quick selfie with Wayne! (myself included!) What a fantastic first class, filled with such amazing and inspiring people! I really can’t thank all those who travelled near (and far!) to come to the class!
